Jeff and I were in the studio last week doing the initial tracking for our upcoming CD “Are You Alone”. Next week, we’ll be diving into the over-dubs with special guests – including Mikey Jr on harmonica, Brian Ashley Jones on guitar, and possibly a little mandolin from our friend Maria Woodford.

It’s very tumultuous. Last week we left the studio feeling like we really accomplished something – then after a few days, we realized there was a LOT of work to do. Especially considering our self-imposed time crunch – with a promised release date of July 18th.
This is my first “real” recording (I’ve done backing vocals for others before, but nothing this extensive). And the truth is, my voice is not where it should be for this kind of work. I’ve never had any kind of formal training, I know I don’t follow the proper vocalist breathing procedures, and the list goes on. So as untimely as it might seem – this summer at the end of July – Jeff and I are both going to the Swananoa Gathering, a week long camp for music professionals. What happens as a result of that – will determine where we, Donovan Roberts, goes from here.
I have lots more to say, but not enough downtime to say it. So I’ll be back (hopefully) soon.
